Burgers. We can’t get enough of them and next on our journey is Dirty Burger. Slightly lower down in the price stakes to Patty & Bun or Honest Burgers it is placing itself in competition with the newly opened Shake Shack in Covent Garden. That is not a slight on them at all, it’s just a case of price points here however remember a £20 burger at a posh restaurant can be beaten by Dirty Burger.
Having been to the Kentish Town establishment a number of years ago, it was good to see one open in Vauxhall as it’s slightly more accessible for us. Up until recently, there was one burger on the menu: a cheeseburger. What a great cheese burger it is too! For £5.50 there is no need to go to Burger King and feel less satisfied. The meat is fresh here, the toppings crisp and your burger is made after you order it. Pair with the crinkle cut fries or the fantastic onion fries (deep fried onion pieces) and you’ll have a great sub £10 meal! The place is small but it is a pure burger place rather than a restaurant. They have some stools and a few tables outside but you can imagine a lot of people take Dirty Burger to go. Drinks are the usual soft drinks as well as milkshakes and a couple of types of beer.
As mentioned earlier there are now other burgers on the menu: a bacon cheeseburger and a veggie burger (aptly named the Dirty Cop-out). Herbie tried this on our latest visit and was very impressed! It may have not been a patty like most veggie options are, but the meaty portobello with mature cheese and a rich creamy garlic sauce still hit the spot.
Dirty Burger have specials every few months so it is recommended to keep an eye out for them as they are very good. Another thing which makes Dirty Burger great is that they’re open for breakfast from 7-11am on weekdays. Sausage and egg or bacon and egg burgers (minus the beef) and unlimited tea or filter coffee make this probably the greatest hangover cure – especially for £4!
Fast food has taken on a new meaning. Burgers with excellent accompaniments and shakes to go, this burger chain is going places and soon there will be no reason to visit those golden arches ever again.
